Dance Troupe

The nation’s first national or public dance group to specialize in modern dance
Established on May 1, 1981, the Daegu City Dance Troupe was the nation’s first national or public dance group to specialize in modern dance. It gives two regular performances and several special performances every year.

Currently composed of 45 members, the Daegu City Dance Troupe was first led by choreographer Kim Gi-jeon, followed by Gu Bon-seok, Ahn Eun-mi, Choi Du-hyeok, Park Hyeon-ok, and Hong Sung-yop. Under their guidance, the troupe now performs advanced creative dances in Daegu, popularizing and increasing access to modern dance among the city’s citizens.

In addition, the troupe participates in the annual National Dance Festival organized by the National Theater of Korea in order to maintain its status as one of Korea’s greatest dance groups and stages performances in Asia and Europe to promote exchanges in the area of dance with advanced countries. Meanwhile, it consistently strives to assimilate the increasingly diverse dance trends from around the world and increase its competitiveness.
